Why not make 2016 a year where we focus on choosing what we will do in an aware and thoughtful manner; thoughtful of the needs of others and our own needs too. Choose 2016 as the year where we will plan and not be planned for. A year with some goals and the simpler the better, particularly if we are not accustomed to setting, pursuing and measuring the outcome of goals.
Choose 2016 as the year where we will get out of our own way and stop obstructing ourselves! Choose 2016 as the year where we will look first to ourselves to determine why things are as they are before we seek to place either credit or blame elsewhere. Choose to remove the idea of blame from our way of life in 2016.
Viktor Frankel wrote “…everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstance, to choose one’s own way.” (Frankel, 2004, p. 75). There is true beauty in Viktor’s words. Let’s in 2016 do what he says and CHOOSE!
Choose to take action; get rid of self doubt with action; if you can’t get rid of self doubt reduce it with some action; Rome wasn’t built in a day. Make mistakes and learn from them. Choose to be compassionate first with ourselves to accommodate our own human frailty and also with others.
Choose in 2016 to be comfortable with not knowing. We can’t know everything; would you want to know everything? Socrates had the view that the only wisdom is knowing you know nothing at all!
Choose to enjoy new learning in 2016; choose to revel in being a learner in 2016. Choose to enjoy you in 2016.
Until we meet again – ENJOY!
